Chromium Corporation has developed rigorous in-process controls and specialized inspection techniques to assure the quality of critical liner cylinder bore finishes. Liner finishes must provide a smooth bearing surface in combination with the optimum density of lubricant retaining pores to assure the proper function of the piston rings. The surface must also have the precise amount of micro abrasion to assure that the rings wear slightly to fit the bore. Chromium Corporation uses surface texture parameters designed specifically to qualify "plateau" honed surfaces. Special inspection techniques also include taking negative impressions, or replicas, of the surface and comparing them to known finish standards.
